Firstly, the title is wrong because there is nothing
in this story about being in the brig, but it is all
about sailors on a Navy carrier who became
very well "acquainted" indeed between the time
they left San Francisco Bay and they arrived in
Hawaii on the shakedown cruise
(and "cruise" is used advisedly). |

A hunky Marine just back from Viet Nam
is separated from service in Los Angeles
and decides to settle down there.
One challenge is to adjust to Hollywood
and the obvious interest in his body
as a sex object which, while not unwelcome,
seems to pop up at every point.
But there's one guy who doesn't
react and of course he's the guy
the Marine really wants...

This novel was the author's favorite because it presented one of the
author's favorite activites,
motorcycling, belonging to gay motorcycle clubs, and traveling to gay motorcycle
runs in the Sierras. The emergence of love between men where their
motorcycles were a part of their relationships. |

The building of a highrise building (did that term exist in 1981?) brings
construction workmen of all kinds together for an ultimate erection, and
this story has enough erections for everybody, it would seem. But the main
story is not just lust but a true-to-life love story that will grip you in
the best romantic fashion. |

The characters in this story are a combination of genres: truckers, pilots
of massive trailer trucks, a very large and important group that transport
goods across the US, finding sex in stops along the highway and wherever
men congregate, and a sub-set of these who were also into S & M. Largely
set in New York City and environs where "the trucks" were a well-known gay-sex
phenomenon along the waterfront. |

The title given this book by the publishers leaves much to be desired,
but it is an updated (1981) story about a boy who runs away from home, looking
for his future on the road to California. His first hitch is with a farmer
who shows him something about sex and golden showers, and it is uphill from
there. He suffers at the hands of Texas police (then known for their jack-boot
tactics), but is rescued by a van load of hippies (1981!). As with all romance
novels, the conclusion satisfies; he meets his true love guy in the desert
and they live happily ever after. |
